Whats New?
Jamaica Nurses Group of New York, Inc members got needed piece of equipment for Jamaica.
This demonstrates the collaboration within the health
sector. Arlene reached-out to the donor, coordinated the delivery and
paid $50 customs fee, Claudette contacted Ava and requested a waiver
for the other fees. Claudette delivered the item to Jamaica. Jill
arranged pick-up of machine at the hotel. Jill used the EKG machine
to screen for cardiac problems.
The proces went well except for the customs fee. While at Norman
Manley Airport in Kingston, I called Ms Anderson at the Ministry’s
Procurement Unit and expressed my dissatisfaction with paying the
customs fee. Ms Anderson said the Ministry is very saddened by the
fee that cannot be waived but the MOH is trying to address the issue.
I thanked her for waiving the duty fees.
Thanks everyone especially Arlene for procuring the machine. Jamaica
benefits from your contribution.
thanks to member Arlene George
