Caring at Home and Abroad

JNGNY 2019 PRESIDENT’S REPORT

It was indeed a Privilege to be the President of the JNGNY for 2019. While the task came with various challenges they were overcome and rewarded by the unrelenting efforts of a loyal and resilient team without whom, the JNGNY could not have survived its 57th year of “Stella” service.

Many thanks to Secretary Annakay and Kimesha who not only kept the records but kept the group on track with posted updated agenda and minutes; Treasurer Jennifer, whose financial updates reminded us of the group’s financial status; Public Relations Officer Powell, who kept us informed of work and events in various organizations. Chaplain Hyacinth who kept the group prayed up, and last-but-not-least, VP Marlene who spearheaded the Education/Scholarship Committee; and stepped in on occasions when the President was unavoidable absent.

To the Executive Board and the entire JNGNY Team – including each member who participated in honoring our motto” “Caring at Home and Abroad,” your accomplished endeavors are worthy of rounds of applause.

Activities:

The Executive Committee identified the need for review and revision of the Bylaws and embarked on this initiative. The process remains in progress with the goal of completing the task within this year.

The group continued to offer first Aid assistance at functions sponsored by various organizations and events such as at Roy Wilkins Park and Penn Relays. One event (the Annual Jerk Fest) at Roy Wilkins Park however, was not attended due to extreme weather. The April Penn Relays event was a great success. The JNGNY teamed with JNG of New Jersey and provided the following service to athletes: Blood pressure checks; taught CPR; and provided several gift bags (prepared by Marlene).

The well talked about “Tea Party” was cancelled due in part to conflicts in scheduling, which also befell the Annual Scholarship Luncheon. The Scholarship Application process was delayed due to unforeseen circumstances. It was however rectified in December 2019 as the awardee was chosen from a total of six candidates. The award will be dispersed in February 2020.

The goal for2020 is that the JNGNY will:

a) Re-establish the relationship with York College (CUNY) in Scholarship offering
b) Accomplish hosting of the tea party (or another fund raiser)
c) Host the Annual Scholarship Luncheon and much more.
d) Complete the review/revision, ratifying and reprinting of the JNGNY Bylaws
e) Nominate the JNGNY new Executive Slate by November 2020

Wishing all members of the JNGNY a fulfilling and productive 2020.
Claudette McFarquhar
President, JNGNY
